Description
The County of Riverside Auditor-Controller's Office (ACO) has 2 payroll Accountant I openings. The Accountant I incumbents will review the Countywide biweekly payroll process through PeopleSoft HRMS which will include calculating employee overpayments, reviewing online warrants, reviewing Short Term Disability calculations, reviewing FLSA and Military pay calculations, fund/bank reconciliation, review of payroll taxes for current and prior years for State and Federal agencies, assist in year-end processing such as 941s, W2s and W2-Cs, and act as the backup on CalPERS analysis and calculations.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Review and identify payroll discrepancies.
- Calculate payroll taxes, such as FICA taxes.
- Perform bank/fund reconciliation.
- Review and implement new and revised payroll tax laws; update desk procedures as needed.
- Complete special assignments.

Examples of Accounting Coursework:
Introductory Accounting I, Introductory Accounting II, Accounting Information Systems, Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Introduction to Taxation, Cost Accounting, Advance Auditing, Internal and Operational Auditing Financial Statement Auditing, Accounting for Government and Non-for Profit Organizations, and Problem Areas in Intermediate Accounting.


HIGHLY DESIRED: Previous payroll experience; experience processing payroll for a large organization; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) issued by the American Payroll Association.
DESIRED: Experience with bank/fund reconciliation; experience reviewing online warrants and overpayments; experience with PeopleSoft Global Payroll; experience with Workday Global Payroll; knowledge of CalPERs, Payroll taxes for State and Federal agencies, sales and use tax, and vehicle taxation.

REQUIRED:

OPTION I
A bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited college or university WITH a specialization in accounting coursework. (A specialization is interpreted as the completion of at least 18 semester or 27 quarter units in accounting, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, or external and internal reporting.)

OPTION II
A valid certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.

OPTION III
90 semester or 135 quarter units from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting or a closely related field WITH a specialization in accounting coursework. (A specialization is interpreted as the completion of at least 18 semester or 27 quarter units in accounting, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, or external and internal reporting.)
AND
1 year of professional accounting experience equivalent to the County of Riverside Accountant Trainee class.

OPTION IV
60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting or closely related field WITH a specialization in accounting coursework. (A specialization is interpreted as the completion of at least 18 semester or 27 quarter units in accounting, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, or external and internal reporting.)
AND
3 years of paraprofessional accounting experience equivalent to the County of Riverside Accounting Technician class or Supervising Accounting Technician class.
