Job Description Controller for Transportation Firm Privately-Owned Trucking Company – South Bay, CA Manage finance and accounting department, providing leadership, mentoring and management of people and process . Information, primarily financial in nature, about company activities that will assist management and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. Essential Functions Manage & oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, weekly and monthly internal and external financial statements, and providing input for change as needed to help drive bottom line results from a financial perspective. Supervise the activities of accounts payable, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable. Supervise the activities of accounts receivable to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, ensuring proper invoice coding, cash receipts application, collection activities and revenue reporting. Supervise the activities of payroll, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of the weekly payroll and total corporate payroll tax compliance, including COBRA activities and quarter and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports. Supervising & executing timely month end closing, including reconciliations and a monthly financial reporting package Manage and maintain all aspects of Information Technology. Lead the development of annual budgets, strategic plans and other financial forecasts Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company's value. Respond to the President as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs. Manage and process all non-income related tax reports and payments. Coordinate with accountants on a monthly basis for financial reporting need and as needed for special projects Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. Responsible for all aspects of insurance to include sourcing and administration. Participate in managing banking relationships, including bank reporting/credit compliance Interface with external HR and benefits consultants as necessary throughout the year. Qualifications: BA in accounting or finance required CPA Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including experience managing others Experience in trucking, 3PL, or logistics preferred Knowledge of business management and accounting software Excellent communication and people skills Ability to lead by example and coach co-workers Excellent attention to detail Highly self-motivated and able to operate autonomously Highest possible ethical and professional standard Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.) Knowledge of AS400 & Innovative Software preferred Excellent time management and organizational skills
