Children’s Home Society of California (CHS) is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant. This position is responsible for supporting the Financial Services Department by applying principles of accounting in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAPP). Under the supervision of Children’s Home Society of California’s Director of Financial Services, the Senior Accountant will: Coordinate the month- and year-end closing process, including journal entry preparation Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations and bank reconciliations Prepare tax and government reports and ensure compliance Maintain master files for tax and government reports Assist in preparation for the Agency Audit Implement and maintain sound internal controls and accounting procedures Maintain all records in a high-quality manner and within record protection, retention, and destruction guidelines Adhere to all agency policies and procedures, as well as applicable contractual and governmental regulations Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Some evenings and weekends may be required Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required Prior non-profit experience preferred five (5) years of relevant work experience in Accounting required Knowledge of GAAP required Ability to identify and interpret relevant regulatory resources (Office of Budget and Management circulars, Internal Revenue Service, etc.) Ability to research and resolve issues with various degrees of complexity Experience preparing for and assisting with external financial compliance audits Ability to analyze accounting data, draw appropriate conclusions, and make recommendations Ability to prepare and present effective written work, provide strong attention to detail, and produce error-free work Proactive professional with a strong work ethic and an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Excellent project management and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and shift quickly between assignments with a flexible and positive attitude while meeting deadlines Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment Commitment to CHS’s core mission and values, and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners Excellent ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and transparently with all levels of staff Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
