Job Description Specific Responsibilities We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Accountant I Finance - Accounting, Spain, based at Gileads Madrid office. This role will report into the Associate Director Finance, Spain and will support the day by day accounting, reporting and control activities in cooperation with Finance Shared Service, contribute to controllership and FP&A activities, and be active participant in projects both at local and EMEA level. You will be part of the Spain Finance Team, which includes the FD, Controllership and FP&A. Essential Duties and Job Functions As a Senior Accountant I, jointly with the other members of the Controllership department and the Finance Share Service center, you will have responsibility for ensuring accounting is accurate and complete and recorded in line with Gilead policy and process, Spanish Local GAAP and US GAAP as well as local legislation including: * Timely completion of month end close activities, including sales cut-off tests and account reconciliation preparation. * Support in month end close call and for Balance Sheet review commentary * Support with the preparation of VAT returns, Intrastat reporting, Statutory books maintenance, and any other Spanish statutory requirement. * Support Purchase to Pay operations ensuring local affiliate adherence to standardize processes and including Travel & Entertainment compliance spot checks and month end close OPEX accrual validation. * Validate customer rebates calculations performed by Customer Service for the different therapeutic areas. * Driving process improvement and fit-for-purpose standardization of reporting and analysis. You will build strong and productive networks and partnerships with internal stakeholders including management and staff in the affiliate, EMEA HQ finance and functions, Financial Shared Services (FSS) based in Cork, Tax and Treasury functions and other EMEA and other finance and functional teams. You will also participate in Spain, EMEA and global improvement initiatives across finance and the wider business where applicable. Knowledge, Experience and Skills Relevantexperience in a large and complex international commercial organization in a similar role supported by FSS Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry a plus. Degree in Economics, Business administration or Accounting. Strong technical accounting knowledge of Local GAAP and a good knowledge of US GAAP as well as all key aspects of controllership in a listed company. Good knowledge of Spain taxation and compliance. Must be able to apply accounting knowledge to day-to-day operations and assigned projects. Good communication, networking and influencing skills manage a variety of stakeholders at all levels effectively, confidently and proactively keeping them up to date. Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills are required. Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, meeting deadlines in an accurate and timely manner. Must be detail-oriented. Must be able to work independently and exhibit solid project management skills. Systems - Good understanding of Oracle ERP or similar ERP system. Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) is required. Fluency in Spanish and English.
