I am sadly finally ready to let go of my very first vintage bicycle, a Womens / Girls 1950 (serial number matches 1950 exactly!!) Columbia 26" Five Star Superb. I purchased it about a decade ago, and at the time it was a rust bucket!! We did an overhaul of the bicycle and cleaned/greased everything. The bicycle was sanded down and completely repainted with a custom professional paint job (Blue pearl / white combination). We had the sprocket, handlebars, and some miscellaneous metal pieces rechromed. Added new white wall tires, new custom metal grips, new white pedals, new white seat, new decals, new front fender light, etc.

At this point in time, the bicycle is in need of some TLC (nothing major). The paint has held up well, but there are some dings/imperfections from breaking down the bicycle and moving it over the years, but minor as you can see in the photos on the kick stand and near the decal on the chain guard. The tires need to be pumped up, and it needs a new inner tube for the back wheel. The front light works, but needs batteries (you can get them at radio shack). The bicycle also needs a back rack at this time. I bought a proper columbia back rack for it years back, but wasn't aware it was bare metal, so it became very rusty. I can include this in the purchase in case you want to make use of it.

Other than that, the bicycle is complete with tank. The sprocket/chain is not a skip tooth, so no worrying about replacing costly chains that are no longer manufactured, nice. :) All the hard work has been done, just some minor tlc stuff. Every time I ride this bicycle I have always received looks and comments, it is really a gorgeous bicycle polished up! I have grown too lazy to keep up with it and we need to make room in our laundry room so we can get a washer/dryer. I was even super lazy with the terrible photographs which do it no justice, but hey, it's a great deal, as I don't want to go through the trouble to break it down and ship via Ebay.

Serious inquiries only, local pickup in San Diego, CA only, no trades, no lowballers, please!! Other than that, I'm happy to answer any questions. Thank you and have a nice day!

La Danse a la Compagne (The Dance in the Country) is Renoir's most sought-after etching. It was produced in 1890 using a soft-ground etching process. Signed by the artist using a signature stamp. Framed in acid-free materials and covered in UV resistant acrylic. Listed in the catalogue raisonne of Renoir's graphic works (Stella 2). There are no official records listing the size of the edition but the art dealer community estimates the edition size at 500-700 total impressions. See closeup photos and a more complete description at http://www.jdsmithfineart.com/gallery-of-artists/renoir-menu/renoir-la-danse-compagne-etching. Will include a copy of the out-of-print 1975 Joseph Stella catalogue raisonne (titled The Graphic Work of Renoir) with the piece.

Many of the most important 19th-Century French Impressionists portrayed Parisian ballet dancers in their art. The most notable Impressionist master whose art included dancers was Edgar Degas. Jean-Louis Forain was another Impressionist who based works on ballet dancers. (In fact it was Forain's friend Degas who introduced him to the Parisian ballet scene.)

J D Smith Fine Art is currently offering four works on this classic theme of French Impressionism. An original etching by Degas titled, Dancers in the Wings, shows dancers staged behind scenery, poised to make their appearance on stage at the right moment. Another original etching, this one by Forain and titled Dancers in Their Dressing Room, shows dancers putting their costumes on in preparation for a performance.

Two original watercolor paintings by Forain also show dancers at the ballet. The first is titled Young Dancer, which shows a young dancer leaning against the wall a the corner, likely a rehearsal room. The second watercolor is titled Dancer and Her Dresser. It shows a dancer in the foreground in the final stages of preparing for a performance, with an older woman helping her in the background. See these wonderful works now at: http://www.jdsmithfineart.com/ballet_dancers_french_impressionism.

The enduring impact of modern art masters like Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, and others is honored in J D Smith Fine Art’s exhibit “A Tribute to 20th Century Modern Art”. The exhibit features graphic works by leading 20th Century Modernists. Modern art includes a wide-ranging group of movements and styles, such as Fauvism, Cubism, Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism, and Surrealism. A list of the most renown of 20th Century Modern Masters always includes the names of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miro, and Dali. Graphics played an important part in each artist’s body of work, with Chagall and Picasso each producing over 1,000 works on paper. These graphic works are much more accessible and affordable as some of them exist in larger editions. Representative works from these larger editions are included in the exhibit. Prices for the different pieces vary. Visit A Tribute to 20th Century Modern Art at http://www.jdsmithfineart.com/tribute_modern_art.

Original etching and aquatint by Edgar Degas, printed in black ink on thick wove creme paper. Titled The Laundresses, Degas' work explores space and uses experimental techniques, including a wire brush to create its texture. This work is classic Degas, as it captures women in motion from an unusual perspective. The original copper plate was executed in 1879-80. This is a fine impression of Reed and Shapiro's fourth state after cancellation of the plate. It was printed as part of Ambroise Vollard's 1919 edition of ~150 impressions from Degas' cancelled plates. Catalog raisonne reference: Reed and Shapiro, Edgar Degas: The Painter as Printmaker, 48. Adhemar and Cachin, Degas: The Complete Etchings, Lithographs and Monotypes, 32. Framed size: 18-1/4 inches H x 17 inches W (46.3 cm x 43.2 cm). Framed in an ornate, finished-corner gold leaf frame with acid-free, white matte and mounting materials. Completed with a UV-resistant acrylic cover. See closeup photos and details at: http://www.jdsmithfineart.com.
