Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Matador Emerging Technology and Arts Laboratory (META+LAB) Director, and in coordination with the META+LAB Assistant Director, the UI/UX Designer and Front-End Developer designs and develops the front-end code and UI/UX for web-based software applications and systems that meet the needs of the Division of Academic Affairs and other clients. The incumbent coordinates with clients within the Division of Academic Affairs, as well as off-campus clients, as appropriate, to conduct needs analyses (and other user-centered analyses) to develop design solutions; prototypes wireframes and conceptual flow models for user interactions with interactive sites; works with all staff and student employees throughout the design and development process to ensure all human factor-based issues are integrated; actively participates and contributes in Google Venture-Style Design Sprints to develop clickable prototypes for UI/UX testing; actively contributes to the in-house UI kit; organizes work within a team-based approach to define, to design, and to document various applications that are developed by the META+LAB; works with various members of the team to break down project assignments, to track said assignments, to identify and resolve impediments, to select appropriate resources to ensure forward momentum of all projects/products; mentors students and student employees engaged with the META+LAB in the following tracks: Front-End development, UI/UX Designer, and Marketing. Within a team-based environment, helps to improve the technical development teams, takes steps to mentor and to develop the staff, and provides technical leadership. Within an agile methodology, breaks down programming assignments, leads sprint planning and sprint review meetings, helps the team meet their daily/weekly goals, and helps to coordinate the delivery and deployment of web applications; engages in exploring the use of new technologies, proposes how said technologies can be used, and shepherds the use of these technologies to appropriately support and address the needs of the META+LAB, Academic Affairs and the University; and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field. Certification training and applied experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis up to two years. Equivalent to six months of full-time, progressively responsible field-related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

General knowledge of: programming and testing methods and techniques for software applications, using Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Keynote, JIRA, BaseCamp, Microsoft Project, AIS, Wave toolbar, Compliance Sheriff, Drupal, Wordpress, GIT, Jquery, Angular, and Vue; general knowledge of specific industry standard applications programming language and of standard systems analysis techniques; and generally accepted documentation methods. Thorough knowledge of PC UNIX and MAC based web browsers and related tools. Ability and specialized skills to: analyze problems; propose effective solutions; understand functional and procedural requirements; relate solutions to management, technical staff, and users; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work effectively within a team environment, is self-directed, and able to thrive in a dynamic environment; make presentations; conduct meetings; provide user training; and prepare programming and user documentation.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The university offers an excellent benefits package.

The salary range for this classification is: $3470 - $6114 per month.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3470 - $4166, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
