SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Structures Department is seeking a self:motivated employee with an innate curiosity for space systems. Successful candidates must demonstrate follow:through, have a strong work ethic, and have the capability to bring technical leadership and innovative solutions to the table.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently with both internal and external customers, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader. The successful candidate will lead or organize technical efforts and project teams, serve as the interface between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff, mentor less experienced MTS, and serve as a role model.
:Support all phases of a Space Structure lifecycle:
:Evaluate concepts for advanced space systems and critically assess detailed designs,
:Provide technically sound independent assessments to assure the structural integrity and survivability of space structures, confirm that structural requirements are satisfied, and evaluate and assess all risks
:Resolve design, test, and manufacturing issues/anomalies/challenges via detailed structural analyses of space vehicle structures
:Conduct Independent Analysis
:Conduct specialized technical studies to assure the integrity and stability of launch vehicle and space structures subjected to static, dynamic, and thermal loads
:Independently analyze structural capabilities and margins, and identify structural requirements
:Maintain state:of:the:art skills in activities related to requirements, design, evaluation, and testing of space structures
:Initiates development of advanced analytical techniques, concepts, design criteria and/or testing in the area of spacecraft structures
:Communicate with line management, inter:organizational personnel, program office points of contact, and customer contacts to scope, plan, and resolve technical issues
:Conduct specialized technical studies and provide timely findings and recommendations to line management and customers via documentation (technical briefings and reports)
:Supports multiple programs and/or activities and frequently acts as point:of:contact for technical activities.
:Coordinate data requirements and findings with staff experts in other disciplines
:Serve as a mentor for developing staff by providing technical guidance and insight
:May lead project teams within the department
:May bring in tasks and projects beyond personal activities from internal and external sources 13;
:Bachelors degree in an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution
:Working knowledge of finite element modeling (FEM)
:Strengths and weaknesses of linear and non:linear FEM and commercial finite element software tools
:Capability to develop advanced structural analysis and test techniques.
:Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co:workers, customers, and contractor personnel
:Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
:Exhibit high levels of innovation, creativity, and initiative
:Some travel required.
:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
:A Current TS/SCI clearance
:Advanced degree related to structural mechanics
:8 or more years of increasingly responsible and related engineering/scientific experience
:Specialized experience with opto:mechanical assemblies
:Performing Structural:Thermal:OPtical (STOP) analyses
:Experience developing hand calculations and using NASTRAN, Abaqus, or other commercial finite element softwa
