Job Description The Behavioral Specialist provides early childhood mental health consultation to Teachers, Family Services Advocates and Administrators in TRF’s early childhood education programs including Head Start and Early Head Start as well as facilitates therapeutic support groups and provides individual and family therapy as needed for clients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Mental Health Consultation Provides case-centered consultation to ECE programs related to children at the center and in the EHS home based option. Observes children in the childcare settings to assess functioning, relationships with teachers and other children Meets on-site or at home with families to complete assessments, provide developmental guidance and referrals, including linkage to clinical services. Meets regularly with ECE staff individually and in groups for reflective supervision Provides training workshops on selected topics when indicated. Programmatic Consultation Observes the childcare setting to become familiar with the program offered to children. Meets regularly with the ECE staff and the site director to address programmatic concerns Provides consultation to site staff on programmatic issues that affect the quality of care provided to the children. Discusses effective mechanisms of working with parents. III. Administrative Maintains up-to-date records. Charts regularly and accurately. Complies with agency policies and procedure Facilitates parent education and client support groups as needed. These groups may include the following: Parent education group Parent support group Maternal Depression group Other support groups as needed General Duties Provide individual, couples and family therapy for clients as needed. Meet regularly with Manager of Education, Manager of Mental Health, Program Coordinator and ECE program staff to address programmatic and therapeutic issues. Provides training workshops on parenting and other topics as needed. Maintains up-to-date records. Chart regularly and accurately. Complies with agency policies and procedures QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in social work, psychology or related field and advanced knowledge of child development; MFT, LCSW, Psy.D or Ph.D Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred. A minimum of 2 years experience as a mental health clinician specializing in psychotherapeutic work with young children and their families. Two (2) years post-licensure experience preferred. Experience with assessment of young children’s social and emotional functioning. Experience with and/or knowledge of group dynamics and intervention with adults. Ability to host reflective supervisions with individuals and groups. Familiarity with the HS/EHS performance standards and regulations. Valid California Drivers’ license, CA auto insurance and a safety record acceptable to TRF’s insurance carrier are required. Job may require scheduling including two evenings per week.
