USC Bovard Scholars is seeking motivated and driven leaders to serve as coaches. Candidates should have experience supporting diverse and economically disadvantaged students within an academic environment. The ideal candidates will have experience assisting high school students with the college application process, strong writing and public speaking skills, a capacity for engaging students in the classroom, and a passion for expanding student access and academic opportunity.
The program aims to help high-achieving high school students with financial need gain admission to and succeed at the nation s top universities. Scholars will receive admission and financial aid guidance, personalized career exploration opportunities, comprehensive test preparation, and leadership development. Many of our students will be the first in their families to attend college. The program includes an intensive, three-week residential experience during the summer(July 15-August 4, 2018)on USC s campus at no cost to the students.
The Bovard Scholars coaches will each be responsible for delivering the program curriculum to a group of12students during the three-week summer session. Additionally, they will work individually with each student to help identify best-fit colleges, review college application essays, discuss career interests, teach college knowledge, and provide support and encouragement throughout the college application process. Coaches will begin a week prior to the program start date for training and have the opportunity to support students through the entire application process. This is oursecond year, so our coaches will strongly influence the foundation of our program and provide a lasting legacy for future cohorts of Bovard Scholars.
Time Commitment:
On Campus:4 weeks, 40 hours per week, in-person,July 9 August 3, 2018.
Remote Support:Ongoing support throughout the students senior year of high school (September 2018 May 2019) to help with the college and financial aid applications and the decision-making process. An average of10-15hours per month via phone, text, email, and video conferencing.
