Job Description
Independent Living Skills Instructor
New Directions In Living, Inc.
Downey, CA
$12.50 – $14 – depending on education and experience.

New Directions In Living (NDIL) established twenty years ago, provides quality services for adults with intellectual disabilities who reside in their own home, apartment or are living with family members and wish to obtain the skills necessary for independent living. NDIL is currently seeking Instructors to provide support and training in the areas of social and daily living skills to adults residing in Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Culver City and Santa Monica and surrounding areas. Instruction is provided in the client’s home and community based settings.

Position
Part time but may lead to a full time position. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, varying from mornings, afternoons and some evenings may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide living skills instruction outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP) to improve client’s independent community functioning.
Conduct community based activities and provide training activities for medical/dental appointments, shopping for groceries, clothing, community resources such as the Social Security Admin., housing resources, etc.
Provide training activities to assist clients with learning how to cook and prepare meals, menu planning, household maintenance, laundry activities and other supports as needed by the individual.
Provide ongoing monitoring and analysis of individual’s progress via required documentation for compliance with Regional Centers (quarterly progress reports, special incident reports, etc.).
Monitor individual’s medications; verify that medications are being taken as prescribed, assist with timely refills, and filling weekly medication container.
Participate in scheduled staff meetings as part of ongoing training
Attend client related meetings (i.e. quarterly, annual, etc.)
Perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with NDIL policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Prefer 1 year previous experience in a related field but will train
the right candidate.

Requirements:
Good written and verbal communication skills
Exhibit good time management skills, patience and flexibility
Must have a current driver’s license, reliable vehicle, proof of auto insurance and an insurable driving record
Must pass background checks
Computer skills
