Once you have discovered the RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL METHOD, and have learned how effective it is, you won't want to leave home without it. You will want to take this very practical and portable method with you everywhere and apply it to your daily situations as they arise.

The Method allows us the ability to be more mindful in our daily encounters. Practicing the method, we become more conscious, more alert to our habitual thought and behavioral patterns that have lead to emotional distress and undesirable behaviors in the past. Using the Method and equipped with cognitive tools, we learn there are many ways to view our situations and there are many possible responses as well. This new flexibility allows better choices. No longer stuck in our old rigid ways, we find we can stay calmer, exercise greater self-control, become more resourceful problem solvers, and avoid very unpleasant states of mind.

Dr. Abraham Low, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, developed the RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL Method and guidelines back in the 1930s and they are very consistent with what is termed COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL TRAINING today. But he recognized that in order for these guidelines to be effective, they needed to be integrated into people's lives. They needed to be a resource that people would use in their daily activities. Therefore he developed a training method where people learned to apply the various tools to their daily circumstances, when they find themselves challenged by aggravations and emotional provocations.

Today we know that our thoughts are synaptically linked to our physical and emotional responses. When we deliberately practice substituting constructive thinking each time we find ourselves in our old counter-productive thinking mode, we are gradually disconnecting the synaptic wiring that bring on those very distressing physical and emotional responses. We are retraining our nervous systems to become less reactive to the situations that use to stir us up and generally find ourselves becoming calmer and feeling a lot better.

And today we have concrete evidence that this self-improvement is also accompanied by physical changes in the brain. “Before and after” brain scans and MRIs show that cognitive behavioral training changes the brain. We are not only feeling better and functioning better, but we are actually changing our brains.

The RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL, method has helped tens of thousands take control of their lives. People, who have long suffered from various emotional difficulties such as ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, ANGER CONTROL PROBLEMS, IMPULSE CONTROL PROBLEMS, LOW SELF-ESTEEM, OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR, etc.
—have given their personal before and after testimonials of greatly improved emotional well-being, better emotional control, improved self-confidence and coping skills, less conflict and better personal relationships. You will hear these testimonials for yourself, when you visit a RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL meeting.

Ann Landers speaking of Recovery, Inc. (now RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL) “Their record of success is phenomenal.”
