Personally, It had never occurred to me that there should be civility in domestic life. I rarely saw examples of it, and when I did, I didn’t know their secret.

Why are everyday annoyances such a big deal for many of us--often a source for grudges-- and yet others can let them go in a minute or two. Yes we are not all the same and we do have different temperaments and are wired differently. But people who have practiced the RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL METHOD know that we do have the personal power to change our responses and our outlook on life . . . and also our wiring. We can retrain ourselves to have different physical and emotional responses to our situations as tens of thousands of Recovery practitioners have testified.

A Recovery meeting is not a place where we are allowed to complain about other people and tell the other meeting attendees about the irritating things that other people do. Instead, it is a place where we learn to observe our own reactions more objectively. We then consider alternate views and find possible workable solutions for our situations. And in the process, we relieve ourselves of a lot of emotional distress.

Recovery training is very much like mindfulness training. We are aware of our feelings and recognize they are often natural responses, but that being said, we acknowledge that we have many options on how to respond and we learn to understand the way we respond has consequences—not only for the other person but also for ourselves. And instead of automatically reacting, we allow ourselves time to consider alternate perspectives and alternate ways to respond.

We have many RI meetings in the Los Angeles area. (See meeting list below.) People are welcome to just drop in at any convenient meeting and observe for themselves how the method works--just to see if it makes sense. If you think it is for you or if you are willing to give it a try, then we have many meetings and also many other options for you. On the other hand, if you don't think it is for you, it's your choice not to return. We do request a $4.00 or more donation at the meeting, but it is up to you as to what you drop in the basket.

Ann Landers speaking of Recovery, Inc. (now RECOVERY INTERNATIONAL) "Their record of success is phenomenal."
