DESCRIPTION
We have multiple openings for Organizers and Community Liaisons in Housing is a Human Right ("HHR"), a new exciting project to fight gentrification, protect tenants and vulnerable homeowners, and maintain the unique cultural character of our urban communities. The goal of Housing is a Human Right is to advocate outside the narrow confines of what appears to be politically possible, and to push the debate, think outside of the box and be policy disruptors. "We will not be moved!"

Our Organizers are the team members responsible for organizing grasstop/community leaders in assigned regions throughout the state, and within the assigned sector, in the case of Community Liaisons. Outreach, recruitment, coordination, motivation and education will focus on building coalition with leaders in the tenant’s rights, labor, reproductive justice, civil rights, clergy, immigrant rights and other social justice advocacy groups. Our Organizers work with the Housing is a Human Right Communications and Research teams to execute campaign goals, objectives and plans.

The Skills/Requirements for HHR Organizer and Community Liaison team member positions includes, but isn't limited to:
● Cultural competency and social justice values/work experience
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures
● Live in/commute to the assigned region
● A confident self-starter, with excellent communication skills, including the ability to deliver Powerpoint/Keynote presentations
● Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
● Ability to work nights and weekends, and long hours when necessary
● Proficiency or capability to quickly learn multiple online platforms including Slack, Evernote, ● Microsoft Office, Wunderlist, EveryAction, etc.
● Responsiveness, attention to detail, excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task, and create reports that track progress
● Reliable vehicular transportation and valid Driver’s License

All Housing is a Human Right positions require an ability to work independently, advance campaign goals, and work within an active, constructive and energetic environment that adapts to exciting new campaign opportunities.

The positions are expected to consume the number of hours similar to a full-time position unless stated otherwise.

The following opportunities are available:
1) LEAD ORGANIZER
The Lead Organizer is responsible for coordinating a statewide team of Organizers that will organize community leaders and execute a statewide effort to combat gentrification.

In addition to the Skills/Requirement above, the Lead Organizer candidates must:
Have at least two (2) years of experience supervising a team of no less than three (3) Organizers
Live in/commute to the Los Angeles region

2) SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ORGANIZER
Under the guidance of the Lead Organizer, the SoCal Organizer is the team member responsible for organizing community leaders primarily in the Los Angeles region.

In addition to the Skills/Requirement listed above, the Southern California Organizer candidates must:
Have at least one (1) year of experience as an Organizer in the social justice movement
Live in/commute to the Los Angeles region

3) BAY AREA ORGANIZER
Under the guidance of the Lead Organizer, the Bay Area Organizer is the team member responsible for organizing community leaders primarily in Northern California’s Bay Area region.

In addition to the Skills/Requirement listed above, the Bay Area Organizer candidates must:
Have at least one (1) year of experience as an Organizer in the social justice movement
Live in/commute to the Bay Area region
Occasionally travel to Sacramento and Los Angeles

4) CENTRAL VALLEY ORGANIZER
Under the guidance of the Lead Organizer, the Central Valley Organizer is the team member responsible for organizing community leaders primarily in the state’s Central Valley region.

In addition to the Skills/Requirements listed above, the Central Valley Organizer candidates must:
Have at least one (1) year of experience as an Organizer in the social justice movement
Live in/commute to the Central Valley region
Occasionally travel to Los Angeles

While the responsibilities and service needs for the Central Valley Organizer may increase in 2018, the team member’s services are expected to consume an average of approximately 110 hours every four weeks in 2017.

5) ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE COMMUNITY LIAISON
The Environmental Justice Community Liaison works within the Organizer team as the team member responsible for building coalition with local and statewide leaders in the environmental, environmental justice and related advocacy groups.

● In addition to the Skills/Requirements listed above, the Environmental Justice Community Liaison candidates must:
● Have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in an environmental or environmental justice organization/movement
● Have a strong existing network of environmental and/or environmental justice organizational contacts
● Live in/commute to the Los Angeles region
● Occasionally travel in the state.

While the responsibilities and service need may increase in 2018, the Environmental Justice Community Liaison services are expected to consume an average of approximately 80 hours every four weeks in 2017.

LEVEL OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
English. Fluency with Spanish not required, but a distinct advantage.
