Company Name: Steven Steinschriber MD, A Professional Corporation

Job Duration: Indefinite
Required Travel: 0-10%
Min Education: O.D.
Min Experience: 1-2 Years
Job Function: Optometrist
Job Type: Full-Time

Description
Medical Optometrist wanted for fast- paced, ocular disease-oriented Ophthalmology practice: ARE YOU ready to join a team that is committed to excellence and fantastic results? Our patients turn to us for the best medical, surgical, and optical eye care available today. Our team includes a very experienced ophthalmologist (28 years in practice), an optometrist (THAT WILL BE YOU) and an optician as well as professional support staff who handle all aspects of medical/vision/surgical care, from general eye exams to complex tertiary eye surgeries. We do MIGS (microincisional glaucoma surgery), complex cataracts with emphasis on premium IOL's, retinal surgeries with strong emphasis on medical retina (knowledge in diabetic retinopathy, vein occlusions, and macular degeneration and their diagnosis and treatments a MUST). I also do many types of laser surgery (non refractive).

You will be joining a longstanding practice (over 80 years!) that provides tremendous learning opportunities ( I am hoping this will be what you really want), including one-on-one mentoring with an established tertiary trained ophthalmologist (ME). You will enjoy working (hard) with outstanding co-workers, and receive excellent COMPETITIVE compensation (based on experience) and benefits, the biggest being the honest good work we do to help a very underserved population. We take Medi-Cal and some of my patients see us for the first time with bilateral vitreous hemorrhages from diabetes as their FIRST eye exam!

Many of our patients are in their senior years, yet have NEVER had an eye exam! We give care to those who can't get this type of premium care anywhere else. You will be fairly compensated but you must have some altruistic streak. Compensation will not only be monetary – this will be your chance to grow your skills as a clinician, both academically and professionally, rarely seen in other OD job opportunities. THIS IS NOT corporate optometry. I am hoping you recieve strong personal satisfaction in the knowledge that you are helping people who are so dependent on you!

Job description – please make sure you are right for this job!
You need to be able to provide medical eye care (both tertiary services and routine wellness care), including pre-op and post-op surgical care for cataract, glaucoma, and retinal-vitreous disorders (I can teach if you have not had the retinal/gl surgical pre/post op care experience), as well as perform basic VSP, EyeMed - type eye exams. You also will assist frequently in preparing/examining patients for intravitreal eye injections (no you can't do them YET) – I persoanlly have used this treatment over 8000 times to date. Knowledge in Cirrus OCT, IOL master, eye photography (possibly including fluorescein angiograph A VERY BIG PLUS particulary financially for you), A and B-scans, gonioscopy, anterior and posterior segment OCT and indirect ophthalmoscopy highly desired, though I am willing to teach whatever you are willing to learn. You will be involved in decision making opportunities as part of a PEER oriented team. Your comfort level will be your guide, and I will always listen and learn from you as much as you listen and learn from me. YOU MUST POSSESS LEADERSHIP SKILLS and desires as you are going to be the CO-BOSS to a team of technicians, opticians, front office, billing and other support staff.

YOU MUST act as a liaison with the general community, including referring physicians and optometrists. New referral patterns that you create will become 'your patients' and compensation will be increased based on that productivity!

Professional Qualifications
• Fully CA licensed and TPA certified optometric physician who has passed the California Optometric Law exam.
• Minimum two years' experience OR one year post graduate residency in ocular disease.
• Experience in ocular disease, again an ocular disease residency much preferred but not absolutely required.
• Strong desire to work in a retail optometric position with an excellent optician.
• The successful candidate will possess a sense of maturity, dignity, depth of character, and a certain amount of toughness to work with sometimes difficult patients who suffer from a myriad of diseases. Many of these patients have been through a lot, are difficult historians and they will become dependent on not only your medical skills but your empathy and emotional support as well. We have a large immigrant patient population, and you must be comfortable with that, and provide COMPASSIONATE care to people who have been through a LOT!
• We will be working together in the clinic 2-3 times a week and two days you will be on your own. This is for a five day a week job (FULL TIME), but I will be able to consider part time (at least four days a week), the fifth day at another clinic or doctor can be had without problem (if you desire).
• Bi-lingual (Spanish) required.
• U.S. Citizenship. (Donald Trump is watching)
• ONE YEAR minimum commitment unless mutually agreed upon.

Willing to submit to a drug test and background check. (okay I have never done this but I must have to have the right to do so!)

Salary:
This is a vibrant, active highly academic practice yet we have an informal air, high level of cooperation, excellent rapport, excellent morale, a grand sense of our mission, and a generally fun group of people to work with. We offer almost every service available to the ophthalmic/optometric community. As my newest tech said to me after being there a month, "Is there anything we don't do?". (Yeah, no pediatrics except occasional health exams, minimal cornea, and neuro-oph). If this sounds like a place that would interest you, I guarantee you a strong level of professional growth, maturity and satisfaction. A great sense of humor is deeply appreciated with a knowledge of sarcasm (I Don't Have To Be Sarcastic but the world has given me so much to work with, I hate to be wasteful). We do need to enjoy working together, it is a small group. Ultimately it will be fair and reasonable. You help me grow and you will benefit. This wil be a partnership in the truest sense of the word. Most importantly I wish the best in your job search, and may you be blessed for a long and productive career!(hopefully here!)

Job Requirements

Professional Qualifications
• Fully CA licensed and TPA certified optometric physician;
• Minimum two years' experience;
• Experience in eye disease – ocular disease residency much preferred but not required;
• Strong desire to work in an atypical partially retail optometric position while managing ocular disease patients. The successful candidate will possess a sense of maturity, depth of character, and a certain amount of toughness to work with sometimes difficult patients who suffer from a myriad of diseases. Many of these patients have been through a lot and they will become dependent on not only your medical skills but your empathy and emotional support as well. We will be working together in the clinic 2-3 times a week and two days you will be on your own. This is for a five day a week job but will consider four days (at a minimum).
• Bi-lingual (Spanish) REQUIRED
• U.S. Citizenship;
• Willing to submit to a drug test and background check.
• Preoperative and postoperative surgical care for my cataract, glaucoma, and retina surgery patients.
• Knowledge of all the latest premium IOLS (toric, multifocal, accomodative) is essential, as is excellence in contact lenses and total comprehensive eye care. Because we see so many people with poor reimbursements you must be willing to 'sell' premium IOL's to patients. I have almost 100% happiness from these lenses because I am extremely selective in deciding who should have these lenses. I have at multiple times talked people OUT of getting premium lenses, as I felt it was not appropriate for them.
• We need your help to grow the practice (which will increase your compensation) and the premium elective lens implant service lines.
