Connect with NRG Energy on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @nrgenergy.ResponsibilitiesMaintain, troubleshoot, test, calibrate, repair and install instruments, transmitters, recorders, indicators, controllers, meters, impulse lines, cable, computers, DCS System, CEMS systems and any device associated with instrumentation and/or control.Troubleshoot electrical and/or instrumentation systems, subsystems and devices generally accepted methods, instruction manuals and experience to determine the root cause of malfunctions. Reports the cause of the malfunction to the appropriate supervisor and takes appropriate corrective actions.Perform corrective maintenance as directed and/or required.Perform additional functions such as isolating equipment, returning equipment to service, adjustments, and performing operational tests with instruction from Station Operators or other Supervisors.Install, overhaul and maintain all sizes and types of power circuit breakers, switches, motors, transformers and electrical power equipment.Test and locate faults on control, power and lighting circuits; potential and current transformers and switchboard wiring; motors and starters; and similar devices on AC and DC circuits.Perform test and inspection, repair and adjust relays, meters, voltage regulators, supervisory control equipment, battery chargers and inverters, instrument transformers, electronic devices and other electrical apparatus used in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.Design, install and test various electrical equipment upgrades, including programming PLC and DCS systems.Work may involve threading and bending conduits and tubing, in addition to pulling wired bundles up to 1†diameter through conduits. Wire termination may require long periods of kneeling. Large electrical breaker may need to be manually pulled and pushed to complete work. Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED EquivalentMinimum of 3 years of experience as an I&E Technician or other similar electrical role.Must be able to use MS Word, Excel Access and OutlookMust recieve a rating of "recommended" on the NRG Energy Pre-Employment Skills Assessment. Additional Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems; proper methods for troubleshooting, repairing and adjusting instruments and control systems; proper and safe methods to clear equipment; safe use of tools; plant safety rules; reporting procedures and practices, maintenance procedures and practices; electrical and mechanical prints.Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical maintenance methods and practices.Ability to utilize the personal computer in applications for spreadsheets, database activities and word processing.Ability to utilize the personal computer for calibration of plant instrumentation, troubleshooting the plant DCS and troubleshooting PLC Systems.Basic level of proficiency in the use of software, hardware and technology of work unit.General understanding of electrical power generation.Thorough knowledge of electronic, electrical and mechanical instrumentation associated with complex analog and digital control systems.Have a good understanding of operating procedures, environmental and safety rules and regulations, and first aid procedures.Able to use test equipment for the detection and repair of faulty instrument and control devices.Able to interpret and follow technical instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic and schedule form.Reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical diagrams, technical manuals and logic diagrams.Perform mathematical calculations to analyze and solve problems related to control process.Use of personal computers, test gauges, digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment such as manometers, potentiometers, conductivity bridges and signal generators and various hand tools.Demonstrate the ability to successfully function as a member and/or leader of a team and to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Working ConditionsRequired to work in confined spaces that require employee to reach and by stooping and/or crawling through tight clearances, or by lying down.NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol free workplace.  To the extent permitted by law and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, employees are subject to periodic random drug testing, and post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
