Senior Propulsion Engineer (Job Number:425489)Description:Provide professional technical engineering support for Propulsion/Ordnance Systems with an emphasis in Large Liquid Engines (RD-180, RS-68, RL10, Merlin or similar engines). This support includes, but is not limited to:- Must have hands-on design, code, build or test experiences with respect to Large Liquid Engines (RD-180, RS-68, RL10, Merlin or similar engines) for Launch Vehicles- Technical assistance in various functional areas of space and launch vehicle propulsion/ordnance systems.- Provide technical evaluation and risk assessments of small and large liquid propulsion systems (hypergolic and cryogenic systems), solid propulsion (Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) propellants and graphite epoxy case materials), small apogee kick motor (AKM), large ablating nozzle, thrust vector control, mass properties, and ordnance- Participate and conduct Peer Reviews for Space and Launch Vehicle propulsion/ordnance systems with respect to Large Liquid Engines (RD-180, RS-68, RL10, Merlin or similar engines) for Launch Vehicles.- Perform detailed review of Large Liquid Engines (RD-180, RS-68, RL10, Merlin or similar engines) with significant knowledge and expertise to ensure proper application of standard processes and best practices.- Develop and Provide documentation of a peer review, to include procedures, processes, designs, tests or test plans, analysis, anomaly resolution plans, and technical recommendations that are associated with satellite software. Peer reviews include preparation, attendance, analysis, and reporting on technical meetings. A peer review consists of evaluating, critiquing, and/or identifying technical risks associated with one or more of the following:- Analysis and test plan shortfalls performed by major contractors. Assessments are based on the system design disclosures, appropriate military specifications as identified by the customer, and good engineering practice- Test and evaluation procedures, processes, and results, to include unit, subsystem, and system level environmental tests- Life cycle issues- First flight items, to include hardware configuration changes, new procedures, and changes from baseline such as critical qualification margins, qualification by similarity, qualification by analysis, flight critical analysis, and proto-qualified components- Non-conformances to include decisions to repair or “use-as-isâ€- Deviations and Waivers of established requirements- “Out of position†and “out of sequence†work- Test anomalies to include unverified failures, repetitive failures of individual units, extensive reworked units, and anomalies with no root cause- Post flight anomalies to include previous causes of launch of mission failure and flight anomalies- Out of family test results- Single point failures- Parts manufacturing issues- “Test like you fly†and “fly like you test†exceptions- Requirements verification concentrating on requirements that are unverifiable by test- Configuration management- Quality assurance and manufacturing, reliability, parts/materials/processes control and contamination and corrosion control- Adequacy of the product for performance and build quality against design disclosure and fleet norms- Software acquisition and development life cycle concerns and issues- Must expect to conduct an average of 10 major propulsion/ordnance peer reviews and 36 minor propulsion/ordnance peer reviews per month on large liquid engines and spacecraft propulsion.ExExcellent Verbal/Communication SkillsQualifications:CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:- Clearance Level Must Possess: Secret- Clearance Level Must be able to Obtain: SecretREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:- Bachelor's degree and 14+ years of experience in Propulsion Technology, Procedures-specifically large liquid engines; BS Eng/Comp Science/Math,SAIC Overview:SAIC is a premier technology integrator providing full life cycle services and solutions in the technical, engineering, intelligence, and enterprise information technology markets.
