Job Description:/h3:
The Welder will coordinate and perform the welding activities of the Welding Department to meet all applicable welding requirements and project schedules.
Under the general guidelines of management,
Perform and oversee MIG/TIG/ARC welding activities according to welding procedure specifications (WPSs) and applicable welding standards.
Read and understand blueprints/project drawings, work procedures and specifications.
Meet production schedules, report progress and communicate resource needs to the head of production.
Meet product quality requirements and work within specified design tolerances.
Coordinate preventive maintenance efforts and housekeeping duties within the welding department.
Perform proper and safe operation of welding machines, plasma cutter, hand tools, grinders, and metal saws.
Access department needs and prepare purchase requests for needed production supplies.
Report quality and safety issues to the appropriate management functions.
Support the companys ISO quality program, policy objectives and improvement initiatives.
Provide support to production, engineering and facilities management functions.
Able to be flexible with work schedule, work overtime as needed and travel to job sites if required.
Work with management to develop welding department methods, tools, jigs and instructions as needed.
Other related duties as assigned.
Personnel qualified for this position must able to perform the tasks as outlined above and must be certified to perform both MIG and TIG welding according to at least two of the following standards: *AWS D1.6 (Structural Stainless Steel), AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel), *AWS D10.18 (Pipe Welding Stainless Steel), *ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping). (*Preferable Qualifications)
Prefer High School or GED; equivalent work experience may be substituted for education.
This position requires a minimum of 2 years of documented industrial welding experience, and a thorough knowledge of various welding techniques, layout, fit:up, weld preparation and welding safety practices. Certified forklift driver helpful but not required.
The Welder must be able to read, write and speak in English, and know basic math and basic measuring techniques. They also must be familiar with applicable AWS standards and understand general welding requirements.
