Responsibilities 13;
The Propulsion Science Department (PSD) is a laboratory group that performs experimental and analytical work in the areas of spacecraft and launch vehicle propulsion in support of our National Security Space (NSS) customers. The Chemical Propulsion and Environmental Sciences Section within the PSD is focused on testing and characterizing a wide variety of chemical systems relevant to NSS space missions.

We are looking for a highly:motivated technician to assist in the operations in The Aerospace Corporations Propulsion Research Facility (PRF). The PRF is a new facility operated collaboratively between the Propulsion and Propulsion Science Departments that includes laboratory space and a reinforced test cell for testing high:energy devices typical of chemical propulsion and ordnance systems. The PRF has enhanced our ability to do work on anomaly investigation and resolution as well as research and development in support of new propulsion systems. Typical tests involve laboratory:scale solid and hybrid rocket motors, additive grain manufacturing (3:D printing), combustion systems involving gaseous and liquid propellants at atmosphere and at high pressure, ordnance (explosives), cryogenic propellant systems, and applications of laser and optical diagnostics towards chemical propulsion systems.

Key Functions
:Fabrication of experimental hardware including plumbing, wiring, data acquisition, and instrumentation
:Assisting with test set:up, execution, and tear:down
:Maintaining organization of the PRF and maintenance of specialty laboratory tools and equipment 13;
Qualifications 13;
:Bachelors in chemical, aerospace or mechanical engineering, or related field and minimum two years of experience or an associates degree or equivalent working with a minimum of five years of experience
:Diverse laboratory and mechanical skills:
:Basic fabrication skills including cutting, drilling and tapping metals, masonry, and plastics
:Experience with tube fitting and bending (such as working with Swagelok, HiP, SAE, NPT)
:Experience with NI LabVIEW and PLC programming
:Experience with test support electronics and data acquisition systems, including sensor troubleshooting (noise reduction, failure mode assessment, etc.)
:Electrical connection setup (e.g. soldering, connecting wires, designing/building breakout:boxes, etc.)
:Attention to detail, good time management, and good communication skills
:Ability to function effectively in a collaborative environment
:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

:Masters degree in engineering or science
:Experience with mechanical CAD design software (such as Solidworks or Pro:E) and fabrication experience including the precision machining
:Experience with data formatting, analysis, and plotting programs (such as MatLab)
:Experience working in and maintaining a hot:fire rocket test facility
:Experience handling propellants, cryogens, ordnance, and/or high energy materials
:Experience with chemical laboratories, vacuum systems, compressed gases, and/or high pressur
