The selected candidate will serve as a Systems Director for the Space Architecture group in the Missile Defense and Space Sensors Directorate (MDSSD) supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The Space Architecture group supports the MDA Space Architect by conducting analyses and assessments of how space elements can contribute to the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) architecture. The Systems Director is responsible for the technical leadership of the experiments and analyses related to space sensors, space architectures, target characterization, and systems performance assessment. The Systems Director will support Aerospaces role in MDAs new acquisition planning for the MDA Tracking System (MTS), and provide support to the Mt. Wilson Aerospace Facility for Integrated Optical Tests (MAFIOT) as necessary.
Responsibilities include coordination of requirements development, trades analyses, subsystem design and analyses, and space vehicle to ground and spacecraft bus to payload interfaces. The successful candidate will ensure that program office and ETG staff are effectively teamed and fully coordinated to work closely with our customer and contractors through all program phases. Form, organize, and lead multi:disciplinary teams for occasional independent reviews, special studies, etc. Routinely identify and assess risk areas and develop appropriate mitigation strategies balancing cost, schedule and technical performance. Provide regular status, including results of Aerospace products to the customer, contractor and management as appropriate. Other duties as required. Must ensure professional integrity and trusted agent role are maintained and are consistent with government mission objectives and corporate interests. Occasional travel will be required.
:Interacting with MDA customers to understand requirements and provide updates on progress.
:Defining tasks, milestones, and schedules; identifying required resources, establishing budgets, and tracking purchases.
:Coordinating tasks and support with Engineering and Laboratory personnel in the Engineering Technology Group (ETG).
:Managing the STE and travel budgets for program support; preparing effective and timely technical reports/briefings to inform Aerospace and MDA management.
:Managing issues within tight schedule, cost and Aerospace ceiling constraints, requiring effective communication skills both internally with Aerospace and externally with customers. 13;
:Bachelors degree in engineering or related field
:12 or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
:Space Systems Engineering
:Ballistic Missile Defense
:Leadership experience with technical teams and customer personnel
:Ability to work both independently and in coordination with the government and associated contractor personnel
:Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
:Ability to travel in support of mission work and work extended hours when necessary
:Knowledge of Aerospace ETG and Laboratory capabilities and personnel
