Title: Grill Chef

Part Time & Full Time Shifts Available.

We are currently looking for candidates for Meat Specialist & Grill Chef. This position requires exceptional customer service, people skills, knife skills, prep and line cook experience (grilling is a plus). You must be creative, have command of all the basic meat cutting and cooking skills and possess a personal passion for making delicious, healthy food to be successful in this job.

Major Responsibilities: Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Food Preparation:

  • Prep and execute food preparation, primarily related to our afternoon & evening grill menus
  • Ensure highest level of food quality, taste and presentation
  • Support the development of menus and culinary dishes consistent with our California-Mediterranean food style
  • Ensure adherence to recipes and product specifications

Customer Service

  • Candidate will be a cross member of the butcher & kitchen teams at Urban Radish and will likely be asked to support the butcher department in supporting meat cutting & customer service roles

Kitchen Operations / Administration:

  • Assist in maintaining an efficient and clean kitchen operation
  • Conduct regular inspections of the entire kitchen/dishwashing areas and coolers and promptly act to correct deficiencies
  • Complete daily food and kitchen supply orders

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and offer skills training to junior kitchen staff - Enforce strict adherence to health department and food handling guidelines
  • Promote effective communication within the kitchen as well as between the kitchen and other departments in the business, including produce, butchery, and grocery

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Scheduling flexibility is required and candidates should be prepared to work at least one weekend day. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Intermediate understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
  • Minimum 3 years work experience
  • Experience with European and/or Middle East cuisine styles -- knowledge of French cooking techniques a plus
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Previous kitchen management/supervisory experience required
  • Fast, neat, clean and organized

Skills / Aptitude:

  • Strong work ethic and stable work history
  • Professional communication skills
  • Ability to take direction as well as constructive criticism - Highly organized with excellent follow up skills and extreme attention to detail
  • Understanding of a \"sense of urgency\" attitude for the completion of responsibilities/tasks - Ability to follow all kitchen safety requirements

License / Qualifications:

  • Food handlers permit required
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and some holidays Must be able to speak, read and understand basic cooking directions
