DVP, Life and A&H Distribution

Position Summary

The Divisional Vice President (DVP) of Life Sales is responsible for managing an overall division of regional territories and ultimately driving sales growth by developing and leading a team of Regional Vice Presidents (RVP).

Organizational Structure

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Brokerage Distribution, this position manages 6 + RVP’s in their assigned territory.

Performance Objectives

  • Oversee the development of RVP’s regional business plans ensuring each aligns with the overall Life sales plan as developed by the SVP of Brokerage Distribution, VP & Head of Strategic Accounts:
  • Assist RVP’s with developing their business plans through BGA segmentation in order to achieve highest return on sales production.
  • Continuously analyze territories to assess market changes or trends or relationship needs.
  • Build high performance teams:
  • Maintain monthly to quarterly “Game Plan” of activities with each RVP. This includes consistent (weekly to bi-weekly) meetings to assess RVP needs and/or regional needs, coordinating travel with RVPs in order to develop skills sets, troubleshoot problem areas and strengthen distribution relationships.
  • Coach and guide RVPs; provide continuous feedback on performance; hold RVPs accountable for sales production and other specified performance expectations.
  • Identify strengths and opportunities for growth/development and recommends courses of action.
  • Work with RVPs on day to day activities involving case management, problem resolution and creative sales ideas.
  • Establish successful relationships with internal clients including but not limited to Marketing, Compliance, Underwriting and Operations.
  • Partner with VP of Sales/Product Training to develop and implement sales management tools & best practices.
  • Maintain understanding of key account profiles which includes their size and scope, product mix, trends and challenges.
  • Understand and stay abreast on competitor intelligence which includes market trends, product ideas and performance, compensation and incentives, etc.
  • Attend national meetings, conferences and other key activities or events.
  • Keep an ethical and compliant Division based on company and regulatory standards.
  • Operate the Division on a cost effective basis within budget as determined by the company.
  • Travel a minimum of 60% of the time.


Position Requirements:

The Ideal Candidate Should Have

  • 7 + years directly managing external sales professionals.
  • Expert knowledge of Life Insurance, Life and Annuity products and familiarity with Advanced Sales concepts.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be able to apply sound discretion and judgment abilities.
  • Strong listening skills required.
  • Demonstrated record of initiative, leadership, problem-solving and adaptability.
  • Excellent public speaking with the ability to plan, organize, develop and deliver effective presentations to a targeted audience
  • Bachelor’s Degree + Insurance designations (CLU and/or ChFC).
  • Minimum 10 + years of Financial Industry experience.
